MTI Launches New Employee Onboarding Certificate Program
MTI is excited to announce that a new Employee Onboarding Certificate Program has been launched in the MTI Online Academy for Heat Treaters.
The new certificate program will automate your employee onboarding training process, without having to take key management away from their other important duties and teach the knowledge necessary for new employees in the heat treating industry. The following content is included in the new certificate program:
- What is Heat Treating?
- How Heat Treating Impacts Society
- How Heat Treating Gives You Purpose at Work Everyday
- Human Factors (required by numerous auditing accreditation groups)
- Sexual Harassment (required by many states)
It is recommended you also have all current employees take this new training certificate program to reaffirm the importance of their job, that what they do everyday matters, and the importance of being focused and alert in their performance.
The new certificate program has been included as a part of MTI’s annual Academy subscription (for subscribers), or you will be able to purchase it as a stand-alone course.
Having a passing certificate in these various areas of training will be important if you are ever audited by OSHA, AS9100, IOS, CQI-9, FAA, or find yourself with a claim in the area of sexual harassment. Training is the best way to teach excellence in performance and behavior so you create a thriving team and workplace culture.

Here's why an effective onboarding process and overall training is so important:
1. Improves Employee Retention
- Effective onboarding helps new hires feel welcome, supported, and valued. Employees who feel connected to their organization are more likely to stay, reducing turnover and associated costs.
2. Enhances Productivity
- Onboarding equips employees with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to perform their job efficiently. It accelerates their learning curve, enabling them to contribute sooner.
3. Strengthens Employee Engagement
- A well-structured onboarding process fosters a sense of belonging, alignment with company values, and clarity in role expectations. Engaged employees are more motivated and committed to their work.
4. Reduces Costs
- High turnover and low productivity due to poor onboarding can be costly. Investing in a solid onboarding process minimizes these risks by ensuring employees are better prepared and supported.
5. Builds Organizational Culture
- Onboarding introduces new hires to the company’s culture, mission, and values. This alignment helps maintain a cohesive organizational identity and ensures that employees understand and support the company’s goals.
6. Decreases Anxiety for New Hires
- Starting a new job can be overwhelming. Onboarding provides clear expectations, reduces uncertainty, and helps new employees navigate their role and the organization comfortably.
7. Improves Team Dynamics
- A structured onboarding process encourages interaction between new hires and their colleagues, fostering teamwork and collaboration from the outset.
8. Establishes Clear Communication
- Onboarding is an opportunity to set expectations about communication styles, performance metrics, and organizational priorities, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
9. Encourages Long-Term Career Development
- A good onboarding program introduces employees to opportunities for growth, such as training, mentorship, or career path options, which can enhance their job satisfaction and long-term loyalty.
Best Practices for Successful Onboarding:
- Pre-Onboarding: Begin engagement before the first day with welcome emails, training materials, or setting up their workspace.
- Structured Timeline: Have a clear plan for the first day, week, and month.
- Mentorship Programs: Assign a mentor or buddy to help navigate the new environment.
- Continuous Feedback: Provide regular check-ins to address questions and concerns.
- Cultural Immersion: Integrate new hires into the organizational culture through team-building and social events.
Investing in effective onboarding is a win-win, ensuring new employees feel valued and prepared while benefiting the organization with higher performance and retention.
