That’s right…MTI hosted it’s first annual meeting that created the Metal Treating Institute in October 1933 in Detroit, MI. An amazing fact? Four of those initial heat treaters are still Members today.
MTI’s 2023 Fall Meeting and 90th Anniversary Celebration will be hosted at the El Conquistador Hilton Resort in Tucson, AZ, October 9-11. It will offer 80+ degree sunny weather and incredible scenery of the desert southwest.

High Quality Education
MTI’s Education Committee, made up of a dozen Members, have put together an outstanding program that hits at the heart of topics on everyone’s mind. On day one, Jay Owen, CEO of Business Builders, will share the inside information on the hottest topic in business…Artificial Intelligence. He will unpack the what, where, and how AI applies in your business. After Jay’s session on AI, Jim Smith from IVC Technologies will discuss the impact that predictive maintenance will have on your plant. Heat Treating is driven by machines and minimizing down time is key to productivity and profits. Jim will share the latest advancements on effective preventative maintenance models. MTI will close out day 1 with a panel discussion of 4 MTI Members who are actively engaging AI processes in their operation. Opening keynote, Jay Owen, will moderate the discussion between the panel and attendees.
On day 2, two MTI Members will facilitate a Fireside Chat session where Members will break down five very big topics that attendees have chosen. This session is always interactive and informative, combining table discussions with full group discussion. Get ready to suggest topics when the survey is sent out on this session.
MTI has selected another winner for the closing keynote with Michael Brody Waite. Michael has an amazing story of going from being an addict and homeless to leading a division of a Fortune 50 company with over a $250 million budget to starting a Fortune 1000 company...all in his 20s! Michael will share with you the three key elements that has led to his success individually and in his company, and explain how you can apply them to find your true self in success. Michael’s keynote will be practical, motivating, and inspiring to make change.

The ability to share common challenges, opportunities, and daily operational issues with other heat treating executives and suppliers from across North America is invaluable. MTI’s opening night dinner will be themed the ”Wild Wild West”and hosted at a small old west town, right on the hotel property. So bring out the cowboy boots and hats, and your best Western wear! After Members have enjoyed dinner and dessert, MTI will play host to a concert by Nashville recording artist, Garrett Speer. Garrett Speer performs 150+ shows a year and we are excited to have him as our opening entertainment for MTI’s 90th anniversary.
With MTI being established in the 1930s, the closing night dinner and 90th Anniversary Celebration will feature a “Speakeasy/Great Gatsby” theme, with entertainment to match. Get ready to dress up in your best 1930’s outfits and enjoy this memorable evening!
