Cory Husemann

I came into the heat treat industry almost by accident. I was working in the pipe lining industry and was laid off during the economic downturn in 2012. Looking for work, I randomly came across a posting on Craigslist for a Project Engineer at an unnamed company. The job description seemed really interesting and within a couple weeks I was starting at Paulo!

After starting out in the Project Management group, I was promoted in 2019 to my current role as Fabrication and Standard Systems Manager. In this role, I still maintain many of the responsibilities I had in Project Engineering. I regularly communicate with Plant Maintenance management and personnel to solve issues with equipment breakdowns and designing more robust equipment and consumable parts. Most of the "standard systems" aspects of my role involve ordering and standardizing the consumable alloy (furnace parts and production alloy) for most of our plants. I am still involved in Capital Projects company-wide, managing building improvement projects and equipment rebuilds. Going along with the alloy purchases, I also work with the production and sales teams, designing custom racking and fixtures for customer parts. Paulo's internal fabrication shop, which I manage, allows us to manufacture many of our own fixtures and furnace parts, greatly reducing lead times and down time. The fabrication shop supports all of our plants across North America.

When I am not working, I am usually spending time with my family. I have a son and daughter, 5 and 8, who keep me on my toes. Trying to keep up with them reminds me I am not as young as I think I am! I also enjoy tinkering in either my workshop on woodworking projects or in the garage messing with cars, small engines, or upgrading the kids' ride-on toys.
